Article Databases for English Research

MLA (Modern Language Association) International Bibliography is published by the Modern Languages Association and is a subject index for books, articles and websites. Indexing dates back to 1923 and contains over 2 million citations from more than 4,400 periodicals (including peer-reviewed e-journals) and 1,000 book publishers.

Literature Resource Center provides access to biographies, bibliographies, and critical analyses of authors from every age and literary discipline. It covers more than 120,000 novelists, poets, essayists, journalists, and other writers, with in-depth coverage of 2,500 of the most-studied authors.

To search the Dictionary of Literary Biography, which is a part of this database, enter your search terms in the "Find:" box and "Dictionary of Literary Biography" in the "by publication title" box.

JSTOR is a database of thousands of academic journals, letters, and primary sources, covering the humanities, sciences, and social sciences. Articles are full-text searchable and include high-quality images.

Project Muse is a collection of complete, full-text versions of scholarly journals from many of the world's leading university presses and scholarly societies.

Masterplots contains over 2,200 essays, which provide fundamental reference data (main characters, year of publication, etc.), plot synopses where applicable, and critical evaluations of a comprehensive selection of English-language and world literature that has been translated into English.

Oxford English Dictionary Online is the online version of the accepted authority on the evolution of the English language over the last millennium. The OED is an unsurpassed guide to the meaning, history, and pronunciation of over half a million words, both present and past.

ProQuest Research Library is a large, diverse database that is useful to students in a wide range of subjects. Content consists of indexing for over 5,000 titles, over 3,500 of which are available in full text. Coverage extends from 1971 to present.

General OneFile is a large database covering a wide range of subjects. It contains indexing for over 13,000 titles, over 8,000 of which are full-text, from 1980 to present.

Academic OneFile is a database that contains indexing for over 9,000 peer-reviewed journals, as well as magazines, newspapers, and audio, video and image files. Coverage stretches from 1980 to the present, and content is updated daily.
